1: Tied with a bow
Here I have bound my book with a single piece of string. I used a needle to poke a hole at the same height in all the pages, at two points of the book. I then threaded a reasonably thick piece of thread through the book and tied it in a bow on the outside. An alternative to this would be to tie the bow on the inside but I thought that looked slightly messy and I liked the way it looked on the outside. This is a quick and simple way of how to bind a book/zine and is a good idea when we are going to be making hand made books and paper.
2: Cross Book
To create this book I chose 8 of my photographs and put them into an A4 photoshop document. I resized them to fit 8 equally on a page and put 4 one way and 4 facing another way. I then folded it so all the images had folds for edges. I then cut down the two folds in the centre of the paper to create what almost looks like an open mouth. When folded down this creates a cross book. This book is slightly harder to make and I would be worried about attempting this for a final book incase it went wrong.
3: Concertina
To create this concertina mock up I did the same thing again with the photoshop file and the 8 images. I then folded them so that each image had folds as edges. I then cut a line between the first 6 images leaving the piece of paper held together by the last 2 images. I then folded it so that it would stand up like a concertina door/privacy screen. I like how this mock up is different and it is a unique way of displaying images but I don't think it is very professional looking so I don't think that I want to use this as my final book style.
4: Japanese Stitch
This is another mock up that I used a needle and thread to sew together. For this one I pushed the needle and thread through the top 3rd of the edge of the paper/book and brought it back over top of the book. I repeated this process lots of times changing between that and pushing the needle through the bottom 3rd and bringing the thread round the bottom of the book. I found this very complicated and the string really restricted the movement/opening of the book so I will definitely not be using this method of book binding for my final book. I think the other way of sewing the book together which was the first one I tried looked a lot cleaner.
